After the war, women were working at home while the men worked from the factories. Despite their contributions women found themselves in the role of a homemaker.

We are here to argue that women should be considered as people.
As of right now, women were not considered "persons". This famous five group of women wanted the BNA Act to change so that the definition of "person" did include women not just men.
In 1916, Emily Murphy became the first woman judge in the British Empire. However in her own court, lawyers challenged her right to preside. They still considered women not to be considered as "persons".
In 1979, the Famous Five asked the Supreme Court of Canada to rule on whether or not women are considered "persons".
