The Fall of the House of Usher
Storyboard Text
- The narrator, who remains unnamed, gets a letter from his mentally sick friend begging him to come see him. The narrator sets off on horseback to see his friend, but as he gets to the house gets a very uneasy feeling.
- When the narrator gets to the house, his uneasy feeling gets worse. After passing a doctor on the stairs and getting even worse feelings, he finally makes it to the room his friend is in, and finds him to be very dead looking and to realize just how bad his mental condition is.
- As the narrator and his friend, Rodrick Usher, sit in the room they are in, the narrator finds out about Usher's sister, Lady Madeline, and her disease as she passes them in the hall and disappears . The narrator says, "...and without having noticed my presence, disappeared. I regarded her with an utter astonishment not unmingled with dread."
- After seeing lady Madeline for the last time, Usher begins doing things around the house including stuff that normally would bother his senses. One of these is painting, the narrator says, "..., and which grew, touch by touch, into vagueness at which i shuddered the more thrillingly, because I shuddered knowing not why- from these paintings..."
- After being informed of lady Madeline's passing, the narrator helps Usher put her body in one of the many vaults in the main walls to preserve her body for a fortnight. Usher's mental state then worsens, it states, "...an observable change....His ordinary occupations were neglected or forgotten. He roamed from chamber to chamber with hurried, unequal, and object-less step.
- As our narrator uneasy feeling gets worse, and he can't sleep, he finds Usher in a very terrible, out of it, state. They begin to read a book and as they read hear noises. Usher informs that they had buried lady Madeline alive. She comes out of the vault, and collapses on her brother. As the last two of the Usher family die, the house collapses with them.
