- Hey Matt do you hear that ambulance
- Yes I do
- Katie why does the sirens sound different as the ambulance drives away to how they sound when the ambulance is stationery outside our house.
- Well that is called the doppler effect
- How does that work?
- When the ambulance moves towards us the frequency of the sound waves increases
- When the ambulance moves away from us the sound waves are stretched out which makes the frequency get lower as it moves away.
