- Working for my dad sucked, so I bought my own ferry!
- I am going to become one of the best ferry services in New York.
- Cornelius Vanderbilt was born on Staten Island in New York City on May 27 1794.
- My businesses continue to grow, soon I will own all the railroads and shipping coming into New York City.
- Vanderbilt quit school and went to work on his father's ferry at 11 years old.
- Vanderbilt went into the freight shipping business and bought his own ferry service at age 16.
- Vanderbilt expands his empire to include other ships such as ocean going vessels and starts investing in the railroad in the 1850s.
- Vanderbilt was known for treating his workers fairly. There were no labor disputes or strikes against his company.
- Vanderbilt would build a massive mansion in Tennessee and found a University. The rest of his money he would give to his second wife, children, and charity.
