- In the beginning of the Chapter Suyuan was telling her daughter June that she can also become a Prodigy and first began with Shirley Temple in the tv.
- PIANO LESSONS

- Jing-Mei is as excited as her mother because she imagines herself becoming the perfect prodigy for her mother and being recognized in her mothers eyes.
- TALENT SHOW
- After various attempts of becoming a prodigy Jing-Mei hates them because it only raises her hopes of becoming one and seeing her mother being disappointed in her made it worse.
- I WISH I WERE DEAD LIKE THOSE BABIES IN KWELIN!
- Jing-Mei is put into a pianist class with Mr. Chong who is a deaf retired pianist and knowing this Jing-Mei kept practicing for a year never giving herself a chance to actually try.
- At the talent show driven by her own false reality Jing-Mei plays the piano and in the end can see her mothers disappointed look again ashamed of her own daughter and in front of her "rival" Aunt Lindo.
- SHES AWFUL!
- Near the end of the chapter Jing-Mei is surprised that her mother still wants her to play the piano, but she was frustrated at her for not understanding that she will never become the "genius" and without thinking hurt her mother by bringing her mothers past.
