- To show his commitment, Mark Antony divorced his wife ad married Octavian’s sister.
- Cleopatra
- Mark Antony divorced his wife for Cleopatra.Octavian was mad because he betrayed his sister.The people of Rome were mad because he married a foreigner.
- Will you marry me Cleopatra?
- I declare war on Cleopatra!
- Octavian attacked Mark Antony for betraying Octavia. He claimed Cleopatra was using him to control the Roman Empire by marrying Mark Antony.
- Cleopatra believed her son, Ceasarion, and not Octavian, was Ceasar’s true heir. Octavian then declared war on Cleopatra.
- In 31 BC Octavian defeated Mark Antony at the Battle of Actium on the west coast of Greece. Mark Antony and Cleopatra were forced to flee to Alexandria in Egypt.
- We have won the war! Victory!
- When Octavian's troops surrounded Alexandria, Mark Antony committed suicide by falling on his sword.
- Soon after, Cleopatra was captured by Octavian who planned to take her back to Rome as a prisoner.
- She was determined not to be humiliated in that way, so she smuggled a snake into her room through a box of figs. She then committed suicide by letting the snake bite her.
