  • In 1500, Ireland was impacted by continental warfare, causing farmers to struggle to produce food. However, potatoes became popular in 1600, and people fought for them for half of their lives.

  • In 1845, the North American Phytphthora infestans spread across Europe, primarily in Ireland. It spread throughout the area, infecting their only source of food, potatoes. Climate change also played a role in theiragricultural failure.

  • The government attempted to alleviate the famine by importing corn from the United States. It wasn't enough, though; some of them died as a result of eating raw meat.
  • The Irish no longer have enough money to pay their rent. The land owners set fire to all of the houses, making it impossible for them to return. They were all fighting for their lives in the street.
  • Some of the Irish left Ireland thinking that they would survive from death. They went to other countries, however, in their journey many of them also died on the coffin ship.
  • The Great Famine made one million of Irish died in starvation and other related diseases. While the others who survived started their new life in America and other countries.
