  • Hi class! Today we will be learning about the 13 colonies.
  • If you look on the board behind you, you will see some of our important vocab words for this unit.
  • Since all of these people had different views on things, they didn't always have TOLERATION for each other.

  • If you have noticed, all of our vocab words are people. All of these people were very important to the development of the colonies
  • Most of these people were PILGRIMS that wanted to go and start a new COLONY.
  • All of these people were from different places and they had different beliefs. Some were PURITANS, QUAKERS, and even SEPARATISTS.

  • A puritan is a religious group that wanted to purify the Church of England.
  • A quaker is a group that believed that people had a direct link with god and that all people were equal. They liked the natives.
  • A separatist is people that wanted to have a separate church from the Church of England

  • The difference is that in a royal colony it is controlled directly by the English king and a proprietary colony, it is created by a grant of land to an individual.
  • The two main colonies were ROYAL COLONY and PROPRIETARY COLONY

  • Some very important places to remember are Roanoke, Jamestown, and Plymouth.
  • The American colonies are the New England, Southern, and Middle. The importance of them is different in each.
