  • James Hurst was born on October 8th, 1922 and passed away on October 10th, 2013 due to natural causes.
  • Hurst attended North Carolina State College, and served in the Army during WW2. Hurst originally wanted to pursue musical acts, such as singing and acting. He later fled those dreams and started in a department associated with the New York City Bank. During these years, Hurst wrote plays and short stories that were published in literary magazines. His short story, The Scarlet Ibis, was recognized very quickly, and was given the ¨Atlantic First" award that year.
