  • Government officials lived in large, fancy mansions with servants to wait on them.
  • 9.6 Artisans
  • The priests cleaned the statue every morning and wore only linen. They shaved their bodies so they wouldn't be considered "unclean" while in the temple.
  • 9.7 Peasants
  • When people learned to be scribes, they worked from dawn until dusk memorizing hieroglyphs and other types of writing.
  • Artisans usually lived 10 yard long rectangular houses with 3 rooms stretched from front to back. One room was for a workroom or for house animals. Another was a living room. The last room was split between a kitchen and a bedroom. Sometimes, people even slept on the roof.
  • Peasants could not keep their crops. They could only keep the crops that were left over.
