- it had a spell put on it by an old fakir. A very holy man. He wanted to show that fate ruled peoples lives. Only three men could have threewishes from it.
- Mr White and Herbert were in a game of chess, playing their game with changes, and putting their kings in such sharp and unnecessary perils.

- I wish for two hundred pounds!
- The gate banged loudly and heavy footsteps came toward the door. Sergeant-Major Morris came, and brought a mummy monkey's paw that had a spell on it, and only three men could have three wishes.

- Herbert died. He was caught in the machinery.

- As Sergeant-Major Morris gave them the monkey's paw, he told them about it and they could have only three wishes.

- Herbert was thinking, that with the paw, they could become rich and famous. So Mr. White wished for two hundred pounds.
- A man from Maw and Meggins came to their house saying that Herbert White their son got caught in the machinery, died by falling in the machinery.The man gave them 200 pounds, to commemorate for their loss.
- Ms. White remembered they still had two more wishes. She grabbed the paw and wished for Herbert to be back alive.
- I wish for Herbert to be alive.
