  • Once there was a farmer named Pillai. He had a son named Kunju . His son was sent to the local government school. He was a very bright student. He also helped his father in farming.
  • He finished Highschool with excellent grades. Now time came for his higher studies.
  • Father, could you raise a loan so I could study in a university and get a degree.
  • No son, it is too risky and what if i can't repay the loan? There will be lots of trouble.
  • His father was against the idea and suggested his son to continue helping him in farming. The son was forced to accept father's suggestion.
  • You should continue helping me in farming, it is a less riskier option and you get a square meal at least.
  • What will you do if we cannot repay the loan? We weill be in a worser position than we are now.

  • Kunju's dream of going to a university was crushed. He continued living a depressed life farming in a one hectare land
  • Suddenly a drought hit kerala, Their only source of livelihood was affected and now they couldn't even make their food.
  • Therefore we learn that investment in human capital is essential in eradicating poverty
  • If Pillai had invested in his son's education, he wouldn't have been stuck in this situation where the basic livelihood was threatened due to such a condition.
