Hey, have you started on the hypothesis for our experiment yet?
No, not yet. I'm not sure how to formulate the alternative and null hypothesis.
Okay, I think I understand. But how do we know what type of test to use?
Well, the null hypothesis is what we assume to be true unless proven otherwise.
The alternative hypothesis is what we want to prove to be true.
That depends on what we're trying to prove. If we want to compare two groups, we would use a t-test. If we want to see if there's a relationship between to variables, we would use a correlation test
Got it. And what about the shape of the curve?
That's determined by the type of test we use. for example, a t-test would have a bell-shaped curve, while a correlation test would have a linear curve.
Thanks for explaining all of this to me. I feel much more confident in formulating our hypothesis now.
No problem. Let's get started on our experiment
Now, that is how you can identify the appropriate test statistics involving population mean.
And that's the end of our lesson for today. See you all in our next class. Thank you and God bless.
