  • Romeo and Juliet III.v
  • Summary One
  • "Marry, my child, early next Thursday morn / The gallant, young, and noble gentleman / The County Paris, at Saint Peter’s Church / Shall happily make thee there a joyful bride." (III.v.117-120)
  • "I will not marry yet. And when I do, I swear / It shall be Romeo, whom you know I hate / Rather than Paris. These are news indeed!" (III.v.126-128)
  • Summary Two
  • "How, how, how, how? Chopped logic! What is this / “Proud,” and “I thank you,” and “I thank you not / And yet “not proud”? Mistress minion you," (III.v.154-156)
  • "Is there no pity sitting in the clouds / That sees into the bottom of my grief? / O sweet my mother, cast me not away!" (III.v.208-210)
  • "Talk not to me, for I’ll not speak a word." (III.v.214-215)
  • Teagan Karwoski Period 2
  • Summary Three
  • "I think it best you married with the county. / Oh, he’s a lovely gentleman." (III.v.230-231)
  • In this scene, Juliet had just let Romeo out of her window after a sleepover. At this time Romeo has to go now before he gets caught since he is banished. Lady Capulet comes into Juliet's room to tell her the "good news." She's very upset about the "good news" and it was that she was marring Paris Thursday.
  • Literary Device
  • In this scene, Capulet is very angry with Juliet because she won't marry Paris. After Capulet walks away, she turns to her mother for comfort. Her mother just says don't talk to me I won't speak a word.
  • Theme: Follow Your Heart
  • "I will not marry yet. And when I do, I swear / It shall be Romeo, whom you know I hate / Rather than Paris. These are news indeed!" (III.v.126-128)
  • In this scene, Juliet is getting advice from the Nurse while she makes a bubble bath for Juliet. The Nurse says that she should marry Paris because he's a lovely gentleman and she would be able to see him all the time. Juliet is unsure if the Nurse is speaking from her heart or not.
  • "Speakest thou from thy heart?" (III.v.239)
  • Juliet is using foreshadowing here because she is either going to confess to Friar or get Friar's help. At the point, she doesn't want to marry Paris because shes already married to Romeo but her parents don't know. She tells the nurse this so she can get Friar to tell her where Romeo is.
  • "Go in, and tell my lady I am gone / Having displeased my father, to Lawrence’s cell / To make confession and to be absolved." (III.v.244-246
  • The theme I picked for this scene is "Follow Your Heart." I picked this theme because she's being forced into marriage with a guy she doesn't like and she's already married to Romeo. She heads off to see Friar Lawrence to ask where Romeo is to tell him the bad news.
  • She is forced to marry Paris but....
  • She is already married to Romeo
