Storyboard Text

  • You see, I live in a shelter and Auntie Lourdes and Uncle Patrick are our house parents who took care of all of us. In our houses there were about 30 kids.
  • I was going inside to take a shower. You would never believe how hard the children play.
  • After my shower, I was heading outside to clean. I had my broom with me because Auntie Lourdes had told me to clean the leaves that had fallen off of the trees. But now Auntie Lourdes needed me for something else.
  • ????
  • We headed towards the bridge that led to the infirmary. The infirmary is where all the children get checkups and where I often went when I got pink eye. We usually call it Iso.
  • I was going to clean, but it was weird. She said she needed me for something. I thought maybe she needed me to rake the leaves. In my country we use a broom to rake leaves.
  • I was very confused. We started walking to the building very slowly. She didn’t mind us walking too slow but I was in a hurry because I wanted to get my cleaning done.
  • She called out to the other aunties to bring Lerma. I wondered if Lerma was supposed to be helping me clean but the raking was already done.
  • Nahibal-an nimo kung diin si Lerma?
  • Well, my sister, Lerma, was in the shower. She came out and joined us. She was very confused because the other aunties tried to rush her in the shower. Her hair was still damped and wet. This is very strange, I thought she needed us for something important but it just seemed like we were walking for no reason.
  • We headed inside the building and Auntie Lourdes said, “Lets see what’s in here,” pointing to the right side of the building. Lerma and I looked at each other and she said, “Ate, unsa ang among gibuhat dinhi?” This means, “Sister, what are we doing here?” I replied, “Ambot.” Meaning, “I don’t know,” and shrugged my shoulder.
  • Ate, unsa ang among gibuhat dinhi?

  • We joined Auntie Lourdes looking through the window where all the medical checkups for the children are done. There was nothing else to see there. Then Auntie Lourdes said, “ Lets go here,” pointing to the left side of the building this time. We headed to the left side and we both started getting nervous.
  • Why are there so many staff? Oh no, we are in trouble. What did we do? Lerma and I walked inside in silence and they told us to sit down.
  • All the staff were whispering and talking. They were whispering about something. Some of them smiled and some stayed quiet. Then it was quiet for awhile. All I could think in my head was, “What did we do? Are we in trouble? This must be huge since all of the staff are here.”
