Storyboard Text

  • Well... you see...
  • Martha Hale, Mrs. Peters, their husbands, and the county attorney drive to the Wright's house to investigate a crime.
  • Nothing here but kitchen things
  • They arrive at the house and enter the kitchen. They see it is in a messy state and begin the process of figuring out what happened here.
  • Mr Hale begins to recount the events of yesterday morning. He angers his wife by telling unnecessary details that further incriminate Minnie Wright.
  • I'd hate to have men coming in my kitchen and snooping around.
  • The men begin to go through the kitchen. They display clear sexism by making fun of the more feminine duties in the household. They also insult and laugh at Minnie Wright.
  • They notice the broken fruit jars in the cupboard. The men joke about them while the women express their concerns. These symbolize the deeper constraints on women in the 1900s.
  • The men leave to investigate the upstairs bedroom and leave the women downstairs. Mrs Hale begins to talk about the awful way the men treat them. Mrs. Peters tries to defend them. They notice many things in the kitchen seem "interrupted".
