Storyboard Description

For seven of the ten years, Odysseus has spent wandering the Mediterranean Sea, he has been held captive by the goddess Calypso on her island. Zeus, seeing Odysseus' need to escape, sends the god Hermes to tell Calypso to release Odysseus. Shortly after recognizing Hermes, Calypso invites him into her home, so that they can discuss the reasoning behind Hermes' visit. Obeying Zeus's order, Calypso sent Odysseus home. Even offering him advice on how to travel back. However, Poseidon conjured severe storms, causing Odysseus to have to swim to the island of Scheria.

Storyboard Text

  • For seven years, Odysseus has been trapped on Calypso's island.
  • Zeus sends Hermes, the messenger god, to inform Calypso that she must release Odysseus.
  • After identifying the other god, Calypso invited Hermes into her home.
  • Hermes relayed Zeus's orders, effectively conveying them to Calypso.
  • "O forlorn man, be still. Here you not need to grieve any more. I shall help you go."
  • Calypso, unable to keep Odysseus captive any longer, allows him to leave.
  • With Calypso's help, Odysseus builds a raft and sets out to sea.
  • Calypso lets Odysseus go, but not before giving him advice about how to get home.
  • After three days of severe storms, Odysseus lands safely ashore the island of Scheria.
