"The reason I don't despair is that... this attack happened. It's not a dream." (6)
Today I am here to talk about the reality of what has happened, an attack on America. I am not hopeless however, there is some beauty to this.
WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER
ALTHOUGH WHAT HAPPENED WAS AWFUL AND DEPRESSING, IT BROUGHT TOGETHER AMERICA. STEWART'S TONE HELPS TO PROVE THAT THERE IS A BRIGHT SIDE IN DARKNESS
"But to see these guys, these firefighters, and these policemen and people from all over the country, literally with buckets, rebuilding... that's extraordinary. And that's why we have already won... they can't... it's light. It's democracy." (8)
Jon Stewart paints us an image of how such brave men have been dedicating their time to rebuild the city. He is saying it is beautiful that we didn't let this break America.
Jon Stewart didn't turn his grief and sadness into hopelessness and despair. Although hard, Stewart chose to see the amazing things that have come out of these attacks. These beautiful things are the heroes, and the country coming together.
