God and I will always be able to forgive you no matter what terrible things you do.
I did something absolutely terrible! I don't know how you will ever be able to forgive me!
My father was murdered! There is no way I will ever be able to forgive whoever did this!
I'm so sorry I broke your toy! Can you please forgive me?
Yeah! I can forgive you. It is just a toy.
People part of the Christian (Roman Catholic) religion are taught to always forgive no matter the circumstances. For example, Theodore M. Hesburgh, is a catholic priest. His instinct is to always forgive. He sits in confession for hours on end forgiving everyone who comes around.
People part of the Jewish religion believe that there are two sins that can never be forgiven. Those sins are murder and destroying someones reputation. For example, Susannah Heschel says that she would have done exactly what Simon did. She would have not forgiven the Nazi soldier. Heschel states that, " A murdered person, after all, cannot forgive the murderer, and a good reputation can never be restored,"(172). Jews have gone through a lot in history and they have very little trust in people anymore.
People apart of the Buddhist religion believe that forgiveness is always possible and one should always forgive. Matthieu Ricard, is a Buddhist. He explains that, in the Buddhist religion, everyone believes that no matter how bad someone might be, that basic goodness still remains in a person. Ricard states, " In Buddhism, forgiveness does not mean absolution, but an opportunity for inner transformation of both victim and perpetrator,"(235).
