  • You are over reacting
  • Why am I mad
  • In his story "Harrison Bergeron", Kurt Vonnegut is trying to point out that humans have a very competitive and often petty attitude when it comes to one another. If in our eyes, someone is prettier or stronger than us, we tend to either think poorly of ourselves or we try to outdo that person until we think we are deemed prettier or stronger. Vonnegut tries to make this point as the people in his story have handicaps so that no one is better than another in any sense. Take George for instance, he is much smarter than the "average" person so he must have an ear radio so that he does not think too much or for too long. Most everyone also has weighted bags around their necks so that they are all of the same strength. If we were all equal and alike, life would be rather boring and quite intense as depicted in this story.

  • He took their handicaps off! I'm going to kill both of them! (pg. 6)
