  • Person v. Nature
  • My feet hurt so badly!!!
  • Person v. Person
  • Diana Goss is a radical!
  • Diana Goss?
  • Person v. Society
  • Where are you going to church?
  • I have to go to church?
  • The overseers want you to go to church so that is why you should go and that is why I go.
  • I know that the scene when Lyddie is walking to a near by village and gets stuck in the rain is person v. nature. I know that this is person v. nature because Lyddie is walking and gets caught in conflict caused by rain. I know that rain is a part of nature, and Lyddie at this time is versing rain/nature to get to the nearby village.
  • In this scene Lyddie tells Amelia and Prudence that she will be going over to Diana's boarding house so she could help her read. Amelia and Prudence know that she is a radical and they do not want her to influence Lyddie to become one too. Lyddie knows that Diana is nice and offered to help her read, these different mindsets on Diana cause Lyddie to have an argument with them. Lyddie is having a person v. person conflict. (Lyddie v. Prudence and Amelia)
  • In the scene above Lyddie is having a person v. society conflict. I know this because Lyddie feels that she does not need to go to church, but in this point in time it was socially acceptable to go to church on Sunday. Going to church made you look respectable so the owners of the mill wanted all workers to have regular attendance at church. Lyddie does not want to go to church but society says that it is ladylike. That causes the conflict that Lyddie is versing society.
