- "She’s been talking about it for ten years and now she’s going whether she wants to or not. I’m going to get her away" (75).

- Daisy told Gatsby that she loved him right in front of Tom. Although he had previous suspicions, Tom was in shock when he heard Daisy speak like that to Gatsby."His mouth opened a little, and he looked at Gatsby, and then back at Daisy as if he had just recognized her as someone he knew a long time ago" (71).

- After insisting that Daisy ride with him, Tom became angry when Daisy said that she was going to drive to the Plaza Hotel with Jay Gatsby instead.

- "He had discovered that Myrtle had some sort of life apart from him in another world, and the shock had made him physically sick" (75).As George was talking to Tom about moving, Myrtle came out and saw Jordan Baker standing near Tom and assumed that she was married to Tom. It made her extremely upset seeing the "couple" together.

- Tom Buchanan and Jay Gatsby began yelling at each other because Gatsby insisted that Daisy loves him and not Tom, while Tom was accusing Gatsby of being a bootlegger and a bad man. Daisy was extremely upset because she knew

- On the way back from the hotel, Gatsby let Daisy drive because she was extremely upset and wanted to calm down. While driving, Myrtle ran in front of Gatsby's car (thinking it was Tom) and Daisy hit her.
- “I’m just going to wait here and see if he tries to bother her about that unpleasantness this afternoon. She’s locked herself into her room, and if he tries any brutality she’s going to turn the light out and on again” (89).Gatsby insisted on waiting outside the Buchanan mansion to make sure that Tom doesn't hurt Daisy in any way.
