Storyboard Text

  • Castro laid traps to defeat Batista’s 12,000 member troops. Since the majority of the troops were inexperienced, Castro, who knew the land well, laid traps to defeat them, and had the overwhelming support of the locals. This was known as Operation Verano.

  • Castro launched a counter-attack against Batista, and by 1958, more than 3,000 of his supporters were armed with weapons that originally belonged to Batista’s troops. Castro gradually took over major cities until he had full control of Cuba in 1959.

  • President Urrutia resigned in 1959, and was replaced by someone who did whatever Castro told them to. When they stepped down in 1976, Castro became president.
