- Pi studied music, and while marking rhythms for a dance class he meets a girl, Anandi, with whom he immediately falls in love, but they have to separate because of his trip.
- One night, after a heavy storm, the ship begins to sink, and Pi, who was on deck marveling at the effect of this does not realize until too late what is happening. When he does and tries to look for his family he can no longer do anything, being put in a boat by a sailor, watching helplessly from the same as the ship sinks with his entire family.

- He then realizes that under the canvas there is a hyena that he must chase away with an oar, rescuing soon after an orangutan that was sailing on a life preserver.Shortly after, a hungry hyena emerges from under the tarp and, unable to reach Pi, attacks the zebra and later kills the orangutan, and then the tiger emerges from under the tarp and kills the hyena.
- When he comes to, he finds himself in the boat with a wounded zebra, seeing how Richard Parker, the tiger, tries to get in, so scared he jumps into the water, when he sees some sharks he gets into the boat, realizing that under its canvas there was a hyena that he has to chase away, rescuing shortly after an orangutan that was sailing on a life preserver.

- From that moment on, Pi will try to stay away from the tiger by building a small raft with two floats and paddles in the shape of blades, to which he attaches life jackets, taking survival food with him.

- But he knows that tigers are good swimmers and that, if he does not get food, he will dive, so he will try to catch fish for him, although while he tries to do so he sees how the animal dives into the water chasing the fish, although he immediately turns to him, who must run to get into the boat, seeing how the tiger is unable to climb and must finally improvise a ladder with the boat's planks so that he can save himself.
