Storyboard Text
- After facing bullying at school, Scout asks Atticus why he took Tom Robinson's case. Atticus explains to her that even though he knows that he is going to lose, that defending Mr. Robinson is the right thing to do.
- While Scout, Jem, and Atticus are visiting Finch Landing on Christmas Eve, Scout gets left alone with her cousin Francis after dinner. During their time together, Francis uses racial slurs towards Atticus and tells Scout that her father is a family disappointment. This causes Scout to lose her temper and become physically violent towards Francis.
- After the violent events of the family get together have concluded and Atticus and the children return home, Uncle Jack comes by to talk to Scout. Although he initially tries to teach her to watch her language and avoid name-calling, Scout ends of teaching her uncle a valuable lesson about children and how to treat them. Later, Scout overhears her uncle and her father discussing the conversation and the upcoming Robinson case; this causes Scout to realize that the months to come are going to be very difficult for her and her family.
