  • Wow! it turned into a gas!.. I didn't know there was so much information about how a liquid turns into a gas.
  • Boiling and Evaporation! The different between these processes is that boiling happens throughout the whole liquid while evaporation happens on the surface. The temperature of the water reached 100 degrees Celsius. Heat energy is added and the water particles move faster and faster and move farther and farther apart. The liquid becomes a gas. A gas has no definite shape and no definite volume. The particles in a gas are very far apart, move very very fast and have little to no attraction to each other. Gases possess fluidity and can take the shape of their container. They can also flow.
  • Okay, lets move onto the 4th task: get a glass of cold water and watch TV for a few minutes...Wow! These tasks are so easy to do! AND I'm also learning so much about the states of matter.
  • 30 minutes later
  • Huh?! There are water droplets forming on the glass! I wonder why...
  • Condensation! Condensation is the phase change where gas turns into a liquid. It is the opposite of boiling and evaporation! Heat energy is removed and the particles move slower and come closer together. Then, the gas becomes a liquid! Just like boiling and evaporation, condensation happens at 100 degrees celsius.
  • Wow! so after a liquid turns into a gas, they can turn back into a liquid if heat energy is taken away? thats so cool! Well, lets get onto the final task: pour the water in the glass into an ice mold and put the mold into the freezer for 30 minutes.
  • I poured the water in the mold and put the mold in the freezer. Now all I have to do is take the mold out in 30 minutes.
