I am a tariff that protects U.S. made goods by putting taxes on foreign made goods.
Tariff of 1828
You are a tariff of abominations! You are helping the North out a lot while us Southerners can't afford this new tax and will not pay it to get our goods. We will try to nullify this tariff and if we can't, we shall secede!
John C Calhoun
South Carolina has every right to nullify the tariff and should secede.
No, unity must come first; I am forcing this tariff, anyway.
I need your help and if I don't act fast, South Carolina might secede and cause a Civil War.
I have an idea. How about we make a compromise tariff so that it is more fair for the South.
The Compromise of 1832 was then forced into action. Southerners still weren't happy but it was a step in the right direction.
Yes! We got rid of the awful tariff of abominations!
Victory! We still have tariffs to protect our goods!
