Storyboard Text

  • Listen boy, now you work for me, you will work as I say, until I say and how I say! Understand?
  • Natives were kidnapped by White men from their villages in Africa and then brought to the Americas in ships through the Middle Passage.
  • After arriving at their destinations, slaves would get sold at slave auctions. For auctions, they would go on a stage and people would shout out prices and the one who had the highest at the end, that person would get the slave.
  • Once they got sold, their masters would explain all the harsh work they wanted the slaves to do and also the strict rules they had to follow. Because if not, they would get horrifying punishments.
  • The slaves would spend around 20 hours or more per day. They had different jobs, such as growing sugar, harvesting crops, clearing land and other tough tasks their masters would have for them to do, even if they did not feel like it, that was not an option.
  • If the slaves would not want to cooperate, if they did not complete the work they had for the day or if they tried to escape and got caught, they would receive tremendous punishments, for instance, getting whipped.
  • When the masters didn’t want the slaves anymore they would return to slave auctions and bid money to sell the slaves again, that was a way slaves got other masters or also if they escaped and got caught by another master.
