  • The name of the country is South Korea. Its official name is the Republic of Korea. It is located in East Asia.
  • What They have Done for the Society
  • In 1950 South Korea was invaded by North Korea and the Korean War began. With the help of United Nations forces, the South Koreans fought back and regained their territory. South Korea became an independent country in 1948. The first president of South Korea was Syngman Rhee. Today South Korea has a fairly strong economy growing in technology.
  • Succession happened in South Korea
  • South Korea is a democratic country which is led by a president. Moon Jae-in is the current president of South Korea who has been leading for 4 years.
  • How South Korea choose their leaders
  • Moon Jae-in is from South Kyŏngsang. He was the leader of the liberal Democratic Party of Korea. Moon has achieved international attention for his meetings with North Korean chairman Kim Jong-un at inter-Korean summits in April, May, and September 2018, making him the third South Korean president to meet their North Korean counterpart.
  • If a presidential vacancy should occur, a successor must be elected within sixty days, during which time presidential duties are to be performed by the South Korean prime minister.
  • The president is chosen through a general election every 4 years. The society vote for the president. Their contribution in voting the right leader will bring the succession to the future of the country.
