Storyboard Text

  • This is Cuba. All of those protesters and rioters, well, the're fighting for their independence from Spain. They are risking their lives!
  • And you see this poor guy, he was sent to a RE-CONCENTRATION CAMP by General Weyler because he is a peasant.
  • The United States noticed what was happining to Cuba, so President McKinly warned Spain about what would happin if tjis continued. They would gpo to war!
  • The United States sent the USS Maine to protect the americans that were on the island. BUT IT BLEW UP! It was a total accident, but Yellow Journalists like Hearst and Pulitzer blamed it on Spain. This was what fueled America to start war.
  • President McKinley demanded compensation for the Maine, end of re-concentration camps in Cuba, truce in Cuba, and Cuban Idependance. Spain accepted some of these, but War was declared anyways!
  • The first battle of the war was the battle of Manila Bay, and it happened on May 1, 1898. The US beat Spain in this War, with the help of the Rough Riders, a cavalry group lead by Teddy Roosevelt.
