In stanza 1 the narrator was at a state of being weak and was about to fall asleep when he heard a light tapping coming from the door.
sir or madam truly your forgiveness I implore
In stanza 2 the narrator is awakened by the tapping and explains that it was gloomy and dark night of December and the narrator is reading his book to try and ease the pain of his lost Lenore.
In stanza 3 the narrator grows more and more anxious as he describes the satin purple curtains he tries to comfort himself by telling himself its just a visitor.

In stanza 4 the narrator mutters the courage to go and answer the door he apologized to his visitor and states that he was napping and the visitor was gently tapping so he could not hear it very well . then he opens the door......
In stanza 5 the narrator stares into the darkness for a wile he starts dreaming and wondering about the impossible he then whispers Lenore. and it echoes back Lenore.
In stanza 6 the narrator returns to his chamber and then he hears a louder tapping coming from the window he later decided to explore trying to tell himself it was just the wind.
