In the Compromise of 1850, the Fugitive Slave Act required the north to capture slaves from the south and return them. This increased tensions because northerners felt that the law was unjust and shouldn't have to capture slaves.
Dred Scott decision
Uncle Tom's Cabin is a book that made northerners increase their protest against the fugitive slave act. But southerners condemned this book and that it was a false depiction It also argued that slavery was a more political and moral issue.
Harpers Ferry
This was pretty much a replacement for the Missouri Compromise. Due to the antislavery activists that made their way into the territories, it was later known as “Bleeding Kansas”. It was also the creation of two new territories and it now allowed popular sovereignty
Election of 1860
A man known as Dred Scott fought for his freedom from his owners in court. Once Dred finally won, the Supreme Court had a way to stop the debates about slavery in territories.
John Brown was someone who led a group of 21 men to seize the federal arsenal. This happened and begin a slave uprising, invade the South, and to end slavery.
In the election, Lincoln vowed to end the spread of slavery. Even though Southerners believed if Lincoln was elected it would be the greatest evil to this country, the Southern then began to secede starting in South Carolina
