Anaerobic training involves high intensity exercise alternated with low intensity exercise of equal or longer periods of time. The last training is circuit training. • M4 Lesson 4 While there are many factors to consider when it comes to your overall physical health, one important concept to keep in mind is your caloric balance. Calories are burned in two different ways. The first way your body burns calories is by maintaining your heart beat, digesting your food, creating new cells, and all other processes that keep your body alive and well. The number of calories burned per day in keeping your body alive is called the basal metabolic rate. We consume calories through what we eat and drink throughout the day. The process used by your body to convert calories to energy is called metabolism. The types of foods we choose to consume is also important. If you want to maintain your current body weight, the number of calories you consume must be equal to the number of calories you burn. If you consume more calories than you burn, you will gain weight. Also, if you want to maintain your current body weight, the number of calories you consume must be equal to the number of calories you burn. • M7 Lesson 2 Obesity is a condition characterized by an excessive accumulation and storage of fat in the body. If a person's body weight is at least 20% higher than it should be, he or she is considered obese. The centers for disease control reports obesity in America has increased dramatically since 1985. Though genetic factors can play a part in obesity, a regular exercise routine coupled with healthy eating habits will help decrease body weight. It is also important to note that although obesity is a huge problem and the first problem many think of when talking about poor nutrition, under-eating is also an issue of poor nutrition. Health issues associated with under-eating include anemia, heart irregularities, and trouble regulating body temperature.
