  • The Receiver of Memory
  • Jonas´ was assigned Receiver of Memory. He is responsible for the memories in the community.
  • Jonas´ has rules for his job the rules say he can lie. The rules also tell him where to go and when to go. No dream telling with his family, no medicine, also the time for training. He has no time for anything else like friends or family. He can be rude and he can not discuss his training.
  • The Givers house is different from other peoples house. His house has locked doors, books, and everything is more luxurious.
  • The Giver transmits memories on the first day of training. He transmits a hill with snow and Jonas is on a sled an its cold. He also transmits a hot summer day and Jonas gets sunburn. Jonas feels pain and warmth.
  • The community is not allowed to make decisions so the community is perfect. If people made their own decisions then there would be a lot of conflict. In a perfect society there can not be any conflict.
