- Odysseus and his men arrived at Aeaea; the island of the goddess Circe.

- Odysseus splits his men into two groups, one to explore the island, and the other to stay behind.

- The men hear Circe's singing and she invites them in, where she cursed them all into animals.
- "The lone ship then sails to Aeaea, home of the goddess Circe, who is considered by most to be a witch" (Fitzgerald, 386).
- Odysseus notified by Eurylochus, goes to save his men, where Hermes helps him out.
- "Eurylochus leads one platoon to explore the island, while Odysseus stays behind on the ship with the remaining crew" (Fitzgerald, 386).
- Odysseus goes and saves his men from Circe by sleeping with her. They then live a year there.
- " 'So reassured, they all cried out together, and she [Circe] came swiftly to the shining doors to call them in' " (10. 23-25).
- Circe tells Odysseus that he must visit the land of the dead to hear from Tiresias.

- "On the way, he meets the god Hermes, who gives him a magical plant called moly to protect him from Circe's power" (Fitzgerald, 387).
- "They stay for one year, until Odysseus finally begs her to let them go home" (Fitzgerald, 387).
