- Hey Lizzie, we have a test today and I was wondering if you knew anything about Nigeria?
- Of course I can! Nigeria is located in West Africa, bordering Niger and it has a population of 209 million individuals. The country has a GDP of 466.88 billion U.S dollars and a literacy rate of 62.02%. The doctor to patient ratio in Nigeria is 1:2753 as of 2020.
- There are hundreds of wild animals that can be found in the depths of Nigeria such as: lions, leopards, mongooses, hyenas, African elephants, African buffaloes, rhinoceroses, antelopes, giraffes, hippopotamuses, monkeys, baboons, western gorillas, chimpanzees, bats, etc. There are also smaller animals such as: mice, rats, mosquitoes, squirrels, rats, gerbils, etc. Furthermore, whales and dolphins can be found in Nigerian waters and hundreds of species of birds.
- Found in tropical rain forests are the famous epiphyte plants, these are plants which grow on other plants. Examples of these include: orchids, mosses, lichens and various species of cacti. The African white mahogany tree and the ube tree are common rain forest trees found in Nigeria. In addition, there are mangrove trees found in mangrove swamps along with: bamboo trees, the chandelier tree, nipa palms, raffia palms and an evergreen climbing shrub. Finally, you can find two different types of grass in Savannas - Bermuda grass and elephant grass - and there are many different types of trees there.

Nigeria is the seventh-most populous country in the world - It was nicknamed “Giant of Africa” - The majority of the population is either Christian or Muslim - People believe that yams and okra leaves (traditional foods) are the cause to the high rate of twins - There are more than 520 spoken languages in Nigeria - Lagos is the country’s largest and most populous and is known as “Africa’s Big Apple” - The country's film industry is one of the largest film producers in the world, second only to India's Bollywood - Nigeria is home to the richest man in Africa - Nigeria is the largest economy in Africa - Like in other African countries, some Nigerians consider the left hand to be unclean - Nigeria has remained a member of the British Commonwealth
- The most common jobs here are: educational services, customer services, web development jobs, transportation, administrative officer jobs, human resources jobs. Traditional houses in Nigeria are built with mud, wood, straw, palm fronds and raffia matting. The straw and mats are made from raffia palm leaves commonly used for roofing in the south and in some northern communities. The average household size in Nigeria is 5 people, the household size is slightly higher in rural areas than in urban areas.
