- I am King John l. I have unlimited power and can do anything I want.
- We need to regain our freedom.
- We need a government that will give the people more power.
- The king's power must be limited!
- How?
- GIVE THE PEOPLE MORE POWER!
- SIGN THE MAGNA CARTA!!
- King John l was known as a greedy ruler who abused his power.
- King John has declared the law is the ultimate ruler.
- Many noble lords begin to grow tired of the king breaking promises and agreements.
- Petition of Rights
- English Bill of Rights.
- On June 15, 1215, King John was forced to put his seal on the Magna Carta by the Barons. They would not take no for an answer.
- Magna Carta
- By putting his seal on the Magna Carta, he became the first ruler to place himself under rule of law.
- The Magna Carta was followed by two additional documents that also brought much-needed restrictions to the power of the British crown; the Petition of Rights and the English Bill of Rights.
- The idea of everyone, including the government, being under rule of law was brought to America by British settlers in the 1600s.
