Storyboard Text

  • From 394-410 CE , a young elected chief became the ruler of the Visigoths. Alaric, once a young Roman commander, was a Visigoth king and army commander who led the fall of the Western Roman Empire. His conquest of Rome, had taken over 800 years to accomplish.Although he was viewed as a barbarian, Alaric was a believer of Christiainity
  • Shortly after Alaric's rule as king, he had a dream where he marched in a golden chariot through the streets of Rome, hailed as emperor. This monumental dream had a major impact on him and he became obsessed with conquering Rome. Finally he decided he would make an attempt in conquering Rome.
  • "To be master of the Roman Empire, that is indeed worth trying for; and why should I not try? With my brave soldiers I can conquer Rome, and I shall make the attempt
  • After, being stopped at Constaninople, Alaric attacked Balkans and many Greek cities such as Corinth, Megara, Sparta, Athens, and Argos. In 397 CE, the East Roman Empire Flavius Arcadius attempted to appease the Visigohs by making Alaric master of the soldiers in a region of The Eastern Empire known as Illycrum
  • I have conquered your land
  • In 401 CE, Alaric invaded Flavius Honorius's Italy, however, in April 6, 402 CE he was defeated by Roman general Flavius Stilicho and was forced to leave the Italian peninsula. He attempted conquest again, but then failed. On the other hand, Alaric compelled the Roman Senate to pay large subsidy to the Visigoths
  • Retreat
  • In 406 CE, Alaric attempted a compromise between both sides . Alaric demanded legal rights to the Visigoths land and with annual payments of grain and gold, in return, he and his army would help Stilicho in the invasion of Eastern Rome. However Flavuis Honorius refused to the terms. An anti-barbarian group rose murdering Stilicho and many other Visigoths serving in the Roman army. 10000 soldiers then united with Alaric's army
  • If they aren't willing to negotiate I shall lay siege to Rome again
  • In 410 CE, after negotiations between Flavius Honorius and Alaric had broken down. Alaric laid siege to Rome for the third time. Allies with the city opened the gates and Alaric and his army led a three day pillage through Rome. Homes and buildings were destroyed, however the Christian churches were left untouched. He had accomplished his dream
  • My dream has finally come true
