  • We should strike hard and fast.
  • We should be cautious and conventional.
  • Attack!
  • In New France there were was a governor and a military commander who had two very different opinions on warfare. One of them though they should just attack hard and quickly while the other though they should be more cautious and not rush so much. They commanded France and the French won many battles in the first few years for example the capture of Fort Oswego in 1756 and the capture of Fort William Henry in 1757 etc. However after those wins the French started losing a lot.
  • The French were forced to get out of Fort Duquesne by the British so the French blew it up first and then left. The British occupied the site and named it Fort Pitt that would later become Pittsburgh.
  • Pretend this is a hill.
  • The British took 12,000 men on boats under the command of general Jeffery Amherst to attack Louisbourg. The French only had 4000 men and they tried to hold them off until winter so that it would be harder for the British to survive but the British still won Louisbourg because James Wolfe gained the shoreline and drove French defenders from their positions around the harbour then captured the higher ground which allowed the British to fire on the town so French surrenders and British burns the place down so France can't use it again.
  • After The British win over Quebec, they advance over to Montreal. The British has 17000 men but the French only have 2000 men. Levis wants to fight to the death but Vaudreuil refuses. Finally on September 8th, 1760 New France surrenders Montreal.
  • The last battle for Canada was fought in Newfoundland and France needs something to bring the the bargaining table when the war ends. In June, 1762, 900 French troops initially capture Fort William in harbor. British responds with 1700 men attacking a French post at signal hill. The British gain the summit in a brief skirmish so French retreat to Fort William who the British start to fire upon. The French surrender September 18th, 1762 which is3 years after Quebec City was surrendered.
  • France is not worried about the loss but Canadiens are worried about deportation. However the French-Canadian society is not shattered because they are allowed to keep the same beliefs, culture, land and property. On February 10th, 1763 the French sign the Treaty of Paris which means the French give up control of Canada, (St. Lawrence area) all of Acadia, (Cape Breton and P.E.I.) Ohio Valley, Great Lakes and French Louisiana. France also gave land to Spain because they fought on their side of Seven Years’ War in Europe to keep the British out.
