Storyboard Text

  • I have put the arms on the side and brought the feet together. I stretched the legs & held the head to immobilize the neck.

  • The person at the head, must keep their hands in the same position during the roll without readjusting.

  • Each of you need to kneel on one side of the athlete. One person at the shoulders, hips & legs. Then, cross hands and reach under the athlete.
  • Three additional rescuers are needed to help the injured athlete. The fourth rescuer will help in later steps.
  • On my command, we will have the athlete rolled on his side towards you guys. Then, the fifth rescuer will place the spine board behind the injured person. 1 2 3 roll!
  • The person at the head is responsible for giving commands to roll the athlete half way.
  • We are going to roll the athlete toward the spine board and slowly lower him to the ground.
  • Adjustments may be necessary to make sure athlete is centered and ready for transportation.
  • We are now going to secure the head first using head blocks and then place straps over the forehead and chin.
  • The head needs to be immobilized by placing towels or blocks on each side of the head.
  • Lastly, the spider straps will be secured starting at the shoulders, hips, thighs, and lower leg. Communicate to assure straps are tightened at the same time.
  •  Now, athlete is ready to be taken by EMS.
