Jim owned a farm near Fort Snelling in St. Paul in 1820. His farm was one of the earliest established in Minnesota. He grew crops such as corn, potatoes, and pumpkins.
The land that Jim founded was located on the Mississippi River. He worked hard to get the land prepared for the growing season.
When Jim started his farm all he had to work with was the simple tools such as his hands, watering can, rakes, and a hoe.
As time went on, Jim had the ability to purchase better farming equipment as it developed. As his crops sold to the local people, he was able to add more animals to his farm.
New inventions such as tractors and mowers helped Jim's farm to be more efficient and produce more crops to be sold.
Jim operates a successful farm where he is able to employ several other farmers. He sells his crops to local people and businesses.
