- Colonialists on the Attack
- Price had a meeting in London with a Guatemalan official.
- 1. Accused Price of being a sell out.2. Dismissed Price from the Executive Council.3. Some believed the allegations of the Colonial power.4. Some believed it was a set of lies
- The Colonial authorities blew it out of proportion
- In July the Honduras Independence Party and the National party merged with the National Independence Party= Philip Goldson assumed leadership later on
- Two Party system emerging= supported by the colonial authorities.
- 1958 Price was charged with sedition (for some alleged remarks against the Crown)= acquitted from charges
- An Attack on Price
- Towards Self Government
- Compromise between Price and the Colonial Authorities
- A new constitution= created office of First Minister and a Cabinet of ministers + Assembly increased to 25 members
- Self Government
- Two matters still reversed: 1. Internal security2. Public service
- Except for the external affairs + defense all other matters would be in the hands of an elected government
- In 1963 the British agreed that Belize would be offered the constitutional steps to gain internal self-government
- Changing the PUP
- NIP= PUP was going to give Belize to Guatemala
- The PUP and colonial Authorities worked together for reforms
