  • Wo ist mein Mann
  • What?
  • Some immigrants were detained at Ellis Island. This was everybody's worst fear. There was no way of knowing if anybody would come for the immigrants.
  • Lots of immigrants were detained for sickness. About 3,500 people died who were in the hospital. About 1,400 of the people who died were children.
  • Even though the children who were being detained could not go outside they still loved to play around. Lots of times they had games that require little to none communication so everyone can play.
  • Lots of times to keep the immigrants that were being detained happy they would celebrate upcoming American holidays. One year they put up a Christmas Tree in the entry way.
  • What most immigrants feared was being sent back to their home country. It was free for the person who was being sent back, but if they were a child the parent would have to pay to go back with the child. And most people did not know what would be waiting for them when they got back.
  • Out of all the 22 million immigrants who came to America only 2 percent would end up being sent back to their home country. Some people decided they didn't want to go back so they committed suicide. Sadly Lady liberty was the first and the last thing they would ever see of America.
