- For the first few days at Rasheed's, Mariam didn't leave her room much and was sad or anxious most of the time
- One of the major plot points in chapter 10 was that Mariam started doing things around the house, like cooking and cleaning. And later when she went to the tandoor, she met Fariba.
- At the end of the chapter, Rasheed told Mariam that he is going to show her around Kabul the next day, and also gives her a sky blue burqa he wants her to wear.He fished a sky blue burqa from the bag. The yards of pleated cloth spilled over his knees when he lifted it. He rolled up the burqa, looked at Mariam.
