Persian Wars: Persia controlled Ionian, but Greek people already lived there. So, several Greek communities came together to revolt against Persia. This made Darius the king of Persia mad, and they wanted to fight Athens for helping the Greeks revolt.

The Greeks surprised the Persian ships as they unpacked. They attacked them leaving the Persians to barely able to fight. The Greeks won.
Battle of Thermopylae: King Leonidas died in this battle. This battle was when the Greeks had a small army, and they fought against a huge Persian Army. The Persian Army won.
The Battle of Salamis: The battle of Salamis was a naval battle. The Greeks won against the Persian navy. They punctured holes in their boats.

Battle of Plataea: Battle of Plataea was the last battle fought in the Persian War before Xerxes retreated to Persia. The Greeks won this battle.
Aftermath: After many battles Xerxes decided to not keep going with the war and he let the Greeks win again. The last battle of the Persian War was Plataea, and the war ended around 479 B.C.E. Xerxes's plan to get revenge on Athens and the rest of Greece did not work. Greece's army was very strong, and they had good weapons. The Greeks beat the Persians for the second time!
