Hello, I would like to give you an overview of IDEA. IDEA stands for Individuals Disabilities Education Act. This law makes available a free appropriate public education to eligible children with disabilities and ensures special education and related services for those children. This also provides children they must learn side by side with peers their age called least restrictive environment.

IDEA provides early intervention for children that are infants and toddlers, birth through age 2, and families receive early intervention services under IDEA Part C.
Do children after 2 years old also get services through IDEA?
Children and youth ages 3 through 21 receive special education and related services under IDEA Part B.

IDEA ensures that the rights of children with disabilities and parents of such children are protected. To also ensure that educators and parents have necessary tools to improve educational results for children with disabilities. This also assesses and ensures the effectiveness pf efforts to educate children with disabilities.
What other educational services for individuals and educational organizations?
IDEA helps to assist States in the implementation of statewide comprehensive and interagency system of early intervention services for infants and toddlers.

There are different benefits for IDEA services: It promotes social inclusion; inclusive classrooms provide opportunities for special education students to interact with peers without disabilities, fostering a sense of belonging and reduce social isolation.Gives eligible child with disabilities the right to a free appropriate public education.Provide at no cost to parents and provided expense under public supervision.Parents and legal guardians also have rights under the law and are protected and have access to the information to participate in the process.Gives students a required evaluation before providing special education services.An IEP is a written statement for each child with a disability that is developed, reviewed, and revised at least once a year.

What limitations does IDEA have for the law?
The limitations of the law for IDEA:One of the challenges if that this act pertains to individuals within a public setting.This does not apply to private settings and but have different requirements and some services are not provided to children in private settings.

Where can we as employees find more information and resources to understand the law and make sure we are adhering to the law?
Great Question! We can provide additional support to help make sure we are using appropriate guidelines to adhere to the law. The company PAVE provides information, training, resources and one on one support through trainings and has an information center if needed. The Council for Learning Disabilities (CLD) from the www.c-c-d.org/ This organization provides collaboration among professionals, development of leaders in the field and advocates for policies that support individuals with learning disabilities at the local, state and national levels.

The Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) provides and enacts the IDEA by supporting the mission and have all adhere to the laws. We use the OSEP Centers to provide personal development, technical assistance with parent training and information centers
What can we do as employees to assist individuals with advocating for students and families?
When we are advocating for students and families we utilize:The Arc of Oklahoma lays out the process and can help individuals learn more about rights of students and the IDEA laws. This also provides support groups for all involved to help with the laws.

We utilize the Oklahoma Parents Center and statewide parent training and advocate for children with disabilities and to help individuals and families understand the IDEA laws and the process they need to follow. This will give guidance and training materials on IDEA. The Oklahoma ABLE Tech is utilized to provide guidance on the IDEA laws to families and individuals. This also advocates for those who need assistance through IDEA Technical Assistance.
These are excellent advocating resources that are provided to families and employees to help adhere to the laws.

When we are adhering to the IDEA legal requirements, we need to also make sure we are demonstrating the importance of personal character by:Providing confidentially appropriate professionalism when adhering to the IDEA laws.Making sure to have compassion, respect when guiding families, integrity, and fairness and reliability when providing guidance to families and stakeholders.By making sure we are diligent and have accountability with self-management skills to provide the most support to families and stakeholders.
