The Germans start by creating the Ghettos in Sighet. In the text it says "Two ghettos were created in Sighet." (Wiesel, 11) This was the Germans first step in controlling the Jews.
The next thing the Germans do it to move the German police force into town and deport everyone in cattle cars. The author says "the wold had become a hermetically sealed cattle car." (Wiesel, 23)
When they arrive at Auschwitz they are separated from their families. Elie and his father leave behind his mother and sisters. In the text he says " In a fraction of a second i could see my mother, my sisters. move to the right." (Wiesel 29) when he leaves his family.
In chapter four they go to the work camp Buna. Elie says "The camp looked as though it had been through an epidemic: empty and dead" (Wiesel 47)
