Myths say that Aphrodite rose from the sea. Born from the foam which arose from the genitals of Uranus thrown by Cronus into the sea.
A later myth made Eros Aphrodite's son, with the power over the lust of gods or humans rather than over elemental forces. He was beautiful and dangerous youth, but by roman times he had evolved into more of a chubby winged cupid, a very mysterious little boy.
No one could ever trust Aphrodite. Zeus himself feared her power and in an attepmt to keep her under some control made her marry the blacksmith Hephaestus, the only ugly god.
Aphrodite promptly took as her lover Ares, The handsome god of war.
Hephaestus found out what was going on and decided to make an unbreakable net of bronze to try and catch the two lovers in the act...it worked
Shortly after Aphrodite had a son with a mere mortal and then later had a son Aeneas, he then went on to fight the greeks in the Trojan war.
