Storyboard Text

  • In 1095, Pope Urban II called upon the people of Clermont, France, to travel to and regain control of the Holy Land from the Muslims.
  • Thousands of people get to Jerusalem with the promise that if they fight, they will reserve themselves a spot in heaven. Though many people died on the trip, control of Jerusalem is seized by the Christians.
  • The Third and Fourth Crusades entail once again losing Jerusalem to the Muslims, and people started to fight against their own sides.
  • Due to failure to previous Crusades, it was decided that children would be sent to Jerusalem, as they were considered holy. Thus, started the fifth Crusade. It was a complete fail as the children were defeated, and sold as slaves.
  • The following Crusades achieved nothing, as the Muslims still had control of Jerusalem, however still allowing Christians to visit the holy city.
  • The year 1291 was the year the final Crusade (ninth) ended as King Edward was forced to retreat from the Holy Land. This ended the almost 200 years (1096 - 1291) of Christians fighting Muslims for control of the Holy Land.
