The theme of The Lottery acts if violence, hatred, murder are not acceptable just because many people participate. Traditions and traditional should be questioned; group mentality can be harmful. People are not all good or all evil but a mixture of both.
Tessie had just drew the card with the black dot, meaning the whole town must stone her to death. They ahd picked up there rocks and threw them at her. A rock had hit her in the head. She Shouts , "it isn't fair, it isn't right (Jackson, pg 7)."
The setting of the story is a beautiful sunny day, just after the children had gotten out of school. Summer had started, the grass is green and the flowers are everywhere. It could not be a better day to perform there lively tradition. Who passes up a day like this to do that. "The morning of June 27th was clear and sunny, with the fresh warmth of a full-summer day; the flowers were blossoming profusely and the grass was richly green (Jackson, pg 1)."
